Deciding and moving on
What happens to a finished test?
Why it works this way
A finished test opens on what it found, dated and counted.
A finished test is a record, not a screen to answer again. If it kept asking for work, you could never tell what you had decided from what you were still deciding. So it says what it found, on which day, on how much.
What we gave up: a "do it again" nudge on a finished test. Testing again is a road you choose (see "What are the four roads after a test?"), not something the record pushes you into.
What it is
Once you have called a test, it stops being something to answer and becomes a record. Open it again from the Tests page (View test) and it opens on its result, not on a box asking for another conversation.
How to use it
Read it top to bottom.
- The result. The card is headed with the day, such as "The result · Oct 12". Its headline says what you did. On a test of one idea: "You called it: It worked", "Mixed" or "It didn't". On a test that compared cards: "You took Late payments forward, on 5 of the 8 you asked for", "Nothing separated them" or "You passed on the whole set".
- In your words. What you told Iris, your AI guide, as you said it.
- A dated count. The card says how much the result rested on: "Called on 8 conversations, Oct 12, with the bar you set met." If any conversation was never read, it is named: "One of them was never read."
- How strong this is. The strength of the evidence, with its reason (see "What can each kind of test prove?").
- What the round held. The conversations and findings, as a record you can read and open.
The count is the one from the day you called it. If you log more conversations later, the result keeps the number you decided on.
A test you have stopped is not a finished test. It opens on "You stopped this test", with Resume.
What it will never do
- Ask for another conversation. A finished test is a record.
- Recount the past. A conversation you log later does not change the number the call rested on.
- Reopen on its own. Only a road you choose does that.
If something looks off
- "Nothing was logged here." The test was ended with no conversations on it. The page says so rather than inventing a result.
- "One of them was never read." A conversation was in when you called it, but its reading never finished. The count stays true and the page names it.
- No result card, and a Resume button. The test is stopped, not finished.
- You are a viewer on a shared board. You can read the whole record and cannot change it.
