Finding where to build

What is an opportunity, and where does the "why now" come from?

Checked on 6 Oct 20263 min read

Why it works this way

An opportunity card carries no savings figure, grade or "recommended" mark: an unsupported number is the easiest thing to repeat.

A card says what the agent would do and which problem it fits, and leaves the proof to your tests. We took confident verdicts off these cards, because you would repeat an unsupported number long after you forgot it was a guess.

What we gave up: a ranking tag, a money figure, and cards that look more certain than they are.

What it is

An opportunity is one agent you could build for the problem above it. It is not a market and not a business idea. After you take a problem, the Opportunities page shows four to six candidates. Each card says, in a short paragraph, what the agent would do on its own, which pain or gain it fits, and what it removes for the customer today.

How to use it

  1. Read the cards. Each is one agent.
  2. Open N sources at the top to see a list of the live pages we read. The small date beside the heading says when they were read. They are leads to test, not proof.
  3. To weigh two or more, tick them. A bar appears with Ask people, which writes a round of questions asking which one they want. Ticking compares. It commits nothing.
  4. To commit to one, press its card. Discover Agents builds the Blueprint around it. If your tests already exist, it asks first and counts what you would lose. See What happens if I change my mind?.
  5. Look for Solves and One job: on a card if you ticked several problems. See When does one opportunity cover several problems?.

Where the "why now" comes from

A card on this page does not carry a "why now" line of its own. The timing evidence sits in two other places. On a space card, the Why now lines link to the pages they came from. On the Blueprint, Why it's buildable now names the specific recent capabilities that make this possible, each linked to a page we read. If the live scan finds nothing, that section says so plainly. See Who is already circling, and where does that come from?.

What it will never do

  • Mark one opportunity as the one to build. You choose.
  • Put a savings figure on a card.
  • Commit you by ticking. Only pressing a card, or the Blueprint's own button, commits.

If something looks off

  • An opportunity says "From the team · to weigh". It was added through the conversation with Iris, your AI guide, and it did not come out of the research. Weigh it like a hunch.
  • The N sources button is missing. No pages were saved for this board.
  • A card is still being shaped. It says "Shaping the opportunity…". Give it a moment.
  • You ticked two and see no Ask people. The bar needs two or more ticks.
  • An older board looks different. Boards made before these cards were simplified may carry fewer or more lines. The Blueprint is the same.
