How do I connect a coding agent?

Checked on 30 Oct 20265 min read

Why it works this way

Connect your coding agent to your board: it reads your work, and anything it hands back waits for you.

Your agent can read your work and propose readings. Readings wait on the test, not counted, until you confirm them, so they never move your bar or your result by accident. And it only proposes readings where no person was asked anything, because what people say has to come from you.

What we gave up: Letting your agent write straight onto your board. That would be faster, and it would make your evidence harder to trust.

What it is

You can connect the coding agent you already use to your account. It works today with Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. The Claude app and ChatGPT are not connected yet. The connection is on Pro and Studio. It is not on Free.

Once connected, your agent can read your boards: your Spaces, Problems, Opportunities, the one line of your Blueprint, and your Tests, with what you recorded on them. It can also take your whole Blueprint to build from. What it reads goes to that agent and the company that runs it. See Who can see my idea and my work?. It is also told which of your tests it could run itself.

On a Free plan you cannot make a key. The connection opens when you move to Pro or Studio.

It can send back readings from a test it ran, but only on a test where nobody takes part: a data analysis, a reliability check, a cost per run check or a scenario stress test. Those readings wait on the test until you look at them. See How do I check readings from my coding agent?.

It cannot edit, delete or start anything.

How to use it

  1. Open Settings and find the "Connect a coding agent" card.
  2. Make a key. Give the connection a name that tells you where it lives, such as "My laptop", and press Create. The card says you will see the key once, and that nobody can show it to you again, including us.
  3. Leave it on screen. Do not press I have saved it yet, and do not paste the key anywhere else. You copy it straight from the card in the next step.
  4. Add it to your app. Never paste the key into your agent's chat, or ask your agent to save it for you. The card has one line for each app. Open Terminal, copy the line for your app from the card, paste it and press Enter. Then press Copy on the key in the card, paste it into Terminal and press Enter again. Nothing shows while you paste, and the key is not kept in your Terminal history. Once it is in, press I have saved it to hide the key. For Codex and Cursor, quit the app and open it again afterwards. This works in a Mac or Linux terminal. On Windows, use WSL; Windows without it is not supported yet.
  5. Check it worked. Ask your agent: "what boards do I have?" The connection's row in the card then reads "Last used just now".

To change to a new key later, make it here, run the same line again and paste the new key. It replaces the old one in your app. The old key keeps working until you revoke it, so revoke it straight after.

To stop a connection, press Revoke next to it and confirm. Your agent loses access straight away. What it already read stays with it. Revoke does not remove batches the agent already sent: they stay waiting, marked "(revoked)", and you can throw them out. This cannot be undone. A revoked connection stays in the list, greyed and folded under "Show cancelled", so you can see which one you ended.

You can have up to 10 connections at once. Revoked ones do not count. At 10, revoke one to make another.

What it will never do

  • Change your work. A connection cannot edit, delete or start anything.
  • Count a reading on its own. Readings it sends stay "not counted" until you confirm them.
  • Send readings on a test where people take part, such as interviews with experts.
  • Read your chats with Iris, the simulated people, who's circling, what's been tried, build prompts or the edit history of your board.
  • Show you a key again once it has left the screen. Nobody can, including us.

If something looks off

  • You lost the key. Revoke that connection and make another. A lost key cannot be recovered.
  • The Copy button does nothing. Your browser may block copying. The key is on screen, so select it and copy it yourself.
  • Your agent says it cannot connect. Run the line for your app again and paste the whole key, with no spaces added. If the key is no longer on screen, revoke that connection and make a fresh one.
  • The line says "That was not exactly one key." Nothing was saved. Copy the key again from the card and paste it once.
  • You pasted the key into a chat, a file or a message. Revoke that connection now and make a fresh one. Wherever it was pasted may keep a copy.
  • "We could not load your connections." Press Try again, or reload Settings. "You have no connections yet" means the list is empty, which is not the same thing.
  • "You have 10 connections." That is the most you can have at once. Revoke one you no longer use.
  • The row says "Never used". The key exists and nothing has used it yet. Ask your agent "what boards do I have?" to check it.
  • A reading is waiting and you do not recognise it. Press Throw them out. A connection you do not recognise in the list is a reason to revoke it.
