Blueprint
What are the ways it could ship, and why pick one?
Why it works this way
Pick the shape your agent will ship as, and the tests are written for that shape.
A test of a Slack agent is not a test of an email agent. People behave differently where they already work, and what you can learn from a rough version depends on where it lives. So we ask you to choose first, and the tests are written for your choice. The recommended tile is where we would start, and the choice is yours.
What we gave up: tests written before you know the shape, and a recommendation hidden away in a section of its own.
What it is
The same agent can take more than one product shape: a Slack agent, an email agent, a small web app. On the Blueprint you see two or three concrete shapes as tiles, each with a name and one line. One tile may carry a Recommended tag, with a short note under the row saying why you might start there. You pick one. Only then does Write the tests light up, and the tests are worded for that shape.
How to use it
- Read the tiles. Each says what the agent would look like to the people who use it.
- Press Pick on one. The tile shows Picked, and the button at the bottom, which was grey, becomes Write the tests.
- Press Write the tests. Your tests are written for the shape you picked, and See the tests takes you to them.
- To hand a shape to a coding tool, press the small prompt icon on the picked card. On Free this opens a note that build prompts come with Pro. On a paid plan it shows the three steps, and if you have connected a coding agent it first asks whether to paste them or let your agent build it. See How do I hand my Blueprint to a coding tool?.
- To pick a different shape, use Change the shape under the picked tile. Then Rewrite the tests writes your tests again. The tests that do not depend on the shape stay as they are.
You can change the shape until you have built one of your tests. After that, the shape stays, because rewritten tests would leave your logged work behind.
What it will never do
- Choose the shape for you. The Recommended tag is a place to start, and Write the tests stays off until you pick.
- Rewrite your tests without you pressing a button.
- Rewrite your tests around logged work. Once a test is built, the shape stays.
If something looks off
- Write the tests is grey. Pick a shape first. Hover the button and it says "Pick a shape first. The tests are written for it, so the pick sets how good they are."
- Two tiles, not three. Some agents have two shapes worth weighing. Pick one of them.
- You do not see Change the shape. You have already built one of your tests.
- There are no shape tiles. Older boards were made before shapes existed, and they go straight to the tests.
- The tests take a moment. The bar says which shape it is writing the tests for. Wait for it.
