Real people and what they say
How do I write down what I learned?
Why it works this way
A finding says what happened to your belief, such as "This got weaker", not that you were wrong.
One test rarely gives one answer. Four conversations can agree with you on one point, disagree on another and leave a third open. So a test gives you separate findings rather than one verdict. They are named for the belief, never for you: "This got weaker", not "You were wrong". One test moves a belief. It does not settle it.
What we gave up: a summary written for you. Your account is recorded as you say it, never restated, because a restated account becomes our claim.
What it is
Once you have called a test, you say what happened, in your own words, to Iris, your AI guide. She records it as you say it. Along the way she can also record separate findings: single things you saw or heard, each filed under one of four kinds.
How to use it
- Call the test (see "How do I compare options and make the call?"). Iris then asks you to tell her what actually happened.
- Answer in your own words. She records it as you say it, and it appears on the finished test under In your words. If you say more later, it is added underneath, not written over.
- Tell her single things you saw or heard, and she files each as a finding: This got stronger, This got weaker, This did not separate, or Nobody asked about this. She confirms with a line such as "On the record: This got weaker."
- Tell her what you saw or heard, not what you made of it. Something a person said or did is something you can check again next month; a conclusion is not. If what you report is a guess about what someone would do later, Iris may ask whether it has already happened.
- Find your findings again as counts on the test page, and on each conversation's own page.
What the four kinds mean. Stronger: you expected it and reality agreed. Weaker: you expected it and reality disagreed. Did not separate: the run could not tell the two outcomes apart, which tells you about your test, not your market. Nobody asked about this: it came up on its own, often the most useful of the four.
How strong the evidence is is shown to you (see "What can each kind of test prove?"). How sure you feel about it is your own call, and nothing on the page asks you to rate it.
What it will never do
- Rewrite your account of what happened.
- Name you in a finding. The kinds describe the belief.
If something looks off
- Nothing to say yet. Nothing waits on your account. The test is called either way.
- "Already on the record." You pressed the same result twice, for example It worked again. It is kept once. A finding you say twice gets the same "On the record" line and is kept once.
- Older findings. Findings recorded before the labels changed show under today's labels, with your sentences untouched.
- A viewer on a shared board can read findings and cannot record them.
