Does it save, and how do I come back?

Checked on 6 Oct 20263 min read

Why it works this way

There is no Save button to forget, and when a save fails a red notice says so.

A discovery is hours of thinking and sometimes real conversations. Asking you to remember to save would put that at risk for no good reason, so the board saves continuously. Taking a board off your list keeps it, so a slip of the finger does not cost you the work.

What we gave up: a button that erases a board on the spot. If you want one erased for good, use Tell Omer or write to the address in the Privacy Policy.

What it is

Yes. Your board saves as you work, so there is no Save button. My boards lists the boards you have started and not removed. Open it from the menu or from the second tab at the top.

How to use it

  1. Work as you normally would. A red notice appears only while a save is failing. If it says "Changes aren't saving. Check your connection.", keep the tab open: it clears when the connection is back. The other two notices below do not clear by themselves.
  2. To leave, close the tab, or start a new board. If a board is open, the pop-up says "The board you have open goes off screen. It is saved, and you can open it again from My boards."
  3. To come back, open My boards and press Open on the board. It opens where you left it.
  4. To tidy up, use the menu on a board's row: Rename, Move to folder, Pin to top, and Run fresh. Run fresh starts a new board from the same words and runs it straight away. It does not change the old one. It is a new board, so it uses a research credit, and if your free board is already in use you reach the limit screen instead.
  5. Once your list is long enough to need them, search, folders, sort and select appear above it.
  6. To remove one, use Remove from list in the same menu. The board leaves your list but is kept, not erased. To ask for a removed board back, or to ask for it to be erased for good, use Tell Omer or write to the address in the Privacy Policy.

What it will never do

  • Ask you to press Save.
  • Hide a failed save. A red notice shows while a save is failing.

If something looks off

  • "Changes aren't saving. Check your connection." Your connection dropped. Keep the tab open until the notice clears.
  • "This board is too large to save. Recent changes aren't saved." The board has grown past what can be saved, and your recent changes are not in the saved copy. Everything saved before the notice appeared is kept, and what you add after it is not saved. This notice does not clear on its own. Use Tell Omer and say which board.
  • "Someone else changed this board, so nothing you do here is being saved." Another person, tab or device has changed the board. Press "Reload to keep working" before you do anything else. This notice does not clear on its own either.
  • You removed a board by mistake. It is kept. Use Tell Omer and say which board.
  • My boards is empty. It says "No boards yet." Start a board and it will be there.
  • A search finds nothing. The list says no boards match what you typed. Clear the box.
  • You want your board as a file. A board lives in the product. You cannot take it out as a file.
