Deciding and moving on

What happens to my board if I change the space?

Checked on 6 Oct 20263 min read

Why it works this way

Changing where to build parks the path you leave, so you can go back to it.

Changing your mind about where to build should not cost the work you did on the way. So the path you leave is parked with its tests and conversations, and you can come back.

What we gave up: a one-tap delete. Removing a path always asks you to type the word, because it can take tests and conversations with it.

What it is

Your board is built on one space, the area you picked as the place you could build in. If you take a different space, your current path is not deleted. It is parked on its own card on the Spaces page, together with its tests and conversations, and the new space starts a fresh discovery.

How to use it

  1. On the Spaces page, press a different space.
  2. If there is work to put down, Change your space? says what you keep: "Your current path is parked here. Go back to it any time." It lists what waits with it ("1 agent, 3 tests and 5 conversations"). Press Change space, or Keep mine to stay.
  3. The new space runs a fresh discovery. Your old path sits on its own card, marked Parked, with the date and any stopped tests: "Parked Oct 12. 1 test stopped."
  4. To return, press Go back to it. The two paths swap, the one you were on is parked in turn, and nothing is generated again, so it costs no credit. A notice says "Back on Late payments. Slow invoicing is parked." and offers Undo.
  5. To remove a parked path, press Delete path. It always asks. It says exactly what you would lose ("You will lose 1 agent, 3 tests and 5 conversations. This cannot be undone.") and opens its button only after you type the word delete. Keep mine leaves everything as it is.

A board keeps up to five parked paths. When it is full, you are asked which one to delete before you move on.

This is true of the space only. If you change a problem or the opportunity instead, the work that hangs off it is cleared from your board, and a count warning comes first (see "What happens if I change my mind?").

What it will never do

  • Delete your old path when you change space. Parking keeps it.
  • Delete a path without you typing the word.
  • Restart a test for you. A test that was stopped when the path was parked stays stopped until you press Resume.

If something looks off

  • No pop-up. Taking the space you are already on never asks, and a board with nothing below the Spaces page has nothing to park.
  • A change was cancelled or failed. The old board comes back and a notice says so. A cancelled one says "Cancelled. You are still on Late payments." One that failed says "Could not read this space. You are still on Late payments."
  • "Your latest changes are not saved yet, so nothing was moved." Wait a moment and try again.
  • "You can see the parked paths, but only an editor can change them." A viewer reads, and does not move or delete.
  • Boards left earlier show Parked in My boards.
  • Remove from list in My boards is a different act. It takes a whole board off your list. The board is kept, not erased.
